F1
It looks like the 2020 season is witnessing an unprecedented level of domination from Mercedes as Lewis Hamilton took another dominant win at the Belgian Grand Prix in Spa-Francorchamps. Following Hamilton was teammate Valtteri Bottas in 2nd place and Red Bull Honda’s Max Verstappen rounding off the podium. The win puts Hamilton just two wins shy of Micheal Schumacher’s all-time win record which could be matched at Ferrari’s 1000th Grand Prix in Mugello. Off-track, another 4 races have been added to the calendar with the return of Turkey, two races in Bahrain in different layouts and a race at Abu Dhabi making up a 17-race season.
F2
It was another difficult weekend to forget for Carlin’s Jehan Daruvala in round seven of the 2020 FIA Formula 2 Championship at Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium. Despite qualifying 9th for the feature race, a lap one incident causing a front wing change sealed the Indian driver’s race to 19th in the end. Daruvala was making up ground in the sprint race, but an incident in the closing stages led to a 10-second time penalty, dropping him to 16th in the end. Daruvala will be hoping to bounce back next week at Monza that is scheduled to run from September 4-6.
BRDC British F3
Hitech GP’s Kush Maini continued his strong momentum at round eight, nine, ten and eleven of the 2020 BRDC British Formula 3 Championship at Brands Hatch. Qualifying 2nd for round eight, the Indian driver took 2nd at the line with 3rd in round ten and then taking his maiden win of the season in the final round of the race weekend. This consistent run from Kush Maini and a disastrous weekend for former championship leader Kaylen Frederick, Maini currently holds the lead of the standings with another 16 rounds to go.
WRC
In the world of off-road motorsport, the 2020 FIA World Rally Championship is set to resume this week with the Rally Estonia scheduled for September 4-6. But the calendar sees yet another shakeup in the form of the Rally Italia Sardegna being preponed from its original dates of October 29-November 1 to October 8-11. The date change avoids a clash with F1’s Gran Premio dell’Emilia Romagna that is scheduled on the same time period and as a response to ADAC Rallye Deutschland being called off due to coronavirus restrictions in the country.
Kari Motor Speedway Revamp
Back home, with no racing action ongoing, the Kari Motor Speedway is under the process of a heavy revamp and now L.G Sports have given a glimpse of the renovation process via a teaser video. Aside from resurfacing, the teaser video also reveals some major track layout changes in progress. The teaser also advertises the track as being ‘F3 ready’, which could mean a place in the F3 Asian championship if it does meet the FIA requirements to host such a race event.
